This past Tuesday we had the pleasure of partnering with Paramount Studios along with Director Brad Bird to celebrate the release of fourth film in the Mission Impossible series: Ghost Protocol. The movie is releasing on DVD and Blu-ray (with Dolby TrueHD) on Tuesday, April 17th.

Dolby and Paramount went undercover to host RETHINK THE IMPOSSIBLE at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. an all-day event with Brad Bird and Dale Shelton who served as a Technical Expert for all the cool gadgets in the film. Some of those gadgets were on display and we got to see them up close and personal (we have photos in our album on Flickr).
Later on in the day there was a panel discussion with four ex-spies : Peter Earnest (30+ year vet of the CIA) who served as Moderator; Jonna Hiestand Menzez (Former Chief of Disguise in the CIA’s Office of Technical Service); General Oleg Danilovich Kalugin (30+ year vet of the KGB); and David G. Major (Former FBI & CIA vet). All four of these 30-plus year veterans sit on the Board of Directors of the International Spy Museum and lend incredible authenticity to the history, stories and displays that are presented in this amazing museum…what kind of secrets do you think they have?!!
The theatrical release of the film was in Dolby Surround 7.1, and now with the Blu-ray in Dolby TrueHD you will have an amazing audio experience no matter where you see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. We took a moment to speak with Brad Bird and asked him a few questions about making Ghost Protocol as well as what he thought about the importance of audio in film.
Mr. Bird said the most important aspects of a film are big screens, good audio (an opinion that he and Gary Rydstrom, the sound designer, sound re-recording mixer on the film, share) and an audience. He believes in making the film in the highest quality available for people with really good systems at home. If he accomplishes that, then even people with less-than-the-best will enjoy an amazing experience.
Sound adds a whole other dimension to the film and whether it is big explosions or cunning silence Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol delivers.
Don’t just take our word for it…go out and buy the film when it is released on April 17th and see for yourself! And for a chance to win one of 5 copies (plus a Dolby spy pen!) check out our Twitter feed on Tuesday!

Andi Fisher just might be slightly addicted to social media. By day she runs Dolby Laboratories social media program, by night she is a travel and food blogger who also happens to love film. When not in a cinema seeing a new release she is watching a movie every night on either her 5.1 or 7.1 home theater system.
