Dolby knows a thing or two about sound, and as games become more real and more immersive, and the stakes around competitive gaming get higher, flawless sound can lead to a perfect round. Dolby has been part of video games for a long time, providing the Dolby Digital technology that allows gamers to create their own personal gaming soundscape in a headset or home theater. We’ve also contributed to team chat, both with Dolby Axon for PC, and Dolby Headphone in many of the headsets gamers use to stay in touch on the virtual battlefield.
So, how do gamers use our products? We took a moment to chat with Manny of Blight Gaming, known in Team Fortress 2 as solidsnake, about how he and the team at Blight use Dolby technology to elevate their game.
Dolby Laboratories: Tell us a little about Blight Gaming. How did you get into the competitive gaming space?
Manny of Blight Gaming: “We started in 2001 as a public gaming team growing in size over the years and expanding into multiple titles. At one point we had 300 members in games such as SWBF GW AA BF2142 CSS. In 2007 we decided to only be a professional team and started transitioning into better teams/players. We currently attend events every month and represent multiple companies.”
DL: How important is the audio experience while gaming competitively?
MBG: “The latest sound gears matters when gaming, developers learned that gamers want the real experience and create games that require more skill. Having the best sound quality can mean checking your flank or losing a valuable round.”
DL: Why Dolby Axon?
MBG: “Dolby Axon has worked with several high profiles brands in the past. The Dolby name in itself is a very well known brand. After trying the product out ourselves we knew it was something we wanted to get behind.”
DL: What about your other game gear? What is your go-to equipment?
MBG: “Our players require the best equipment possible to perform, with that ideal in mind we partnered with WASD keyboards who produce awesome customizable keyboards.”
DL: What are your other Dolby experiences (in the cinema, home theater, sound cards, etc.) and what does Dolby technology mean to you?
MBG: “Dolby has always been a well-known name in audio technology, and I am completely excited to be involved with such a well-known brand. I have owned and used several products with Dolby technology, and I have always come away impressed.
We’re glad Blight Gaming chose Dolby to keep in-game sounds in their headsets, and wish them luck as they continue to climb the eSports rankings. Follow their teams at their website, on Twitter, or on their Facebook page.
